I discovered crashes like this can occur even with a single GPU and
single monitor. Then fixed it in the final version of triple buffering
that landed in Mutter 48. The cause was bufferless KMS updates like
Night Light animations or even cursor movement in some cases. But Night
Light is probably th
I am not able to get any crash reports as there are none.
Anyway, disabling the Ubuntu Dash makes the issue go away, so it is
somehow in it's code. I assumed it was fully JavaScript but I didn't
find where the code for Ubuntu Dash is on an installed system so I
didn't get further in debugging.

It's not resolved, it's still a bit of a mess in the upstream trackers
with too many duplicate bugs. So I removed the milestone to show we're
not going to solve it any time soon. At least I've now got more of the
upstream bugs linked to each other.

Well, this is intriguing. While testing the plucky daily images for the
Raspberry Pi desktop, I found that this issue appears fixed (at least
for my very narrow case of a Raspberry Pi driving a particular monitor
which consistently failed to go to sleep when the desktop was locked).
