relevant news to me, and I suspect others using Xorg for this very

Yes it seems like the F4 key is stuck down on the laptop. That would
explain the weird Ctrl and Alt behaviour. I can only suggest bashing the
F4 key to see if the problem then goes away.

The problem seems to be the gnome-shell test suites that start with:
- Launching /usr/share/mutter-16/tests/socket-launch.sh pipewire
- Launching wireplumber
and end with:

Officially we only switched Nvidia systems over to Wayland in Ubuntu
24.10. There was a lot to fix and 24.04 will probably never have enough
of those fixes. But all systems including Nvidia now default to Wayland
in 24.10 and 25.04. And the list of known bugs is tiny:

The Nvidia drivers I am referring to are in support of a Razer Chroma
eGPU, which has an NVIDIA GPU inside , connected over Thunderbolt 3.
Wayland simply would not cooperate, which was the reason to use Xorg.
