that Karmic hasn’t package in PPA. I know that gnome-colors is in Karmic repo,
but I really like edge ;).

There isn’t Karmic package in PPA. You just need to copy exists package
to Karmic series at https://launchpad.net/~gnome-colors-
packagers/+archive/ppa/+copy-packages

I encrypt my home dir by ecryptfs on installation (by
user-setup/encrypt-home=true). I set my face, but GDM doesn’t show it. When my
account is used GDM show face.
I try to:
* use GlobalFaceDir and put file like user.png in it dir;
* put .face file
