I get this error as well. Nothing in particular seems to trigger it - my
Gnome session just crashes. Sometimes while I'm working, sometimes while
I've stepped away from my laptop.
I'm on Ubuntu 17.10 with all current updates applied.

I have not been able to reproduce it on my 9.04 setup running on a
nVidia GeForce Graphics Card.
Can you share your driver + Hardware details and also xorg.conf and the
dmesg output.

Thanks for your attention, Sebastien! This is actually not a crash;
Evolution hangs, but does not shut down. After we close it manually, it
refuses to restart. From what we can see in the system monitor, the
evolution process is still active, which may be why it doesn't start up
again.

I've just started getting exactly the same problem, on two different
laptops, which were fine as of a few days ago. Both are regularly
patched, with the same versions of Rhythmbox as in the original report.

this is how it is done (ugly workaround):
right click desktop
create launcher - type: location
name: gnomesux
fill in as much as you can and save
right click on gnomesux on the desktop. properties-link-url
type: smb://hostname/location/filename
you might want to fix the fugly icon it defaults to
