This patched solution doesn't require natspec or librcc to run. This is
the solution upstream has used (with modifications) in 6.10b to fix the
problem.

I'm uploading a build with the archlinux patch for natty for those that
might find it helpful.
It looks like this was fixed upstream with a modified version of this
patch as of 6.10b, so the best effort to get this fixed now would be to:
A.) Ensure 6.10b works as expected
B.) Ensure 6.10b is in n
This patch provides the fix from Debian for libfishsound in Hardy.

Well, it appears that wasn't what was causing GDM to hang. I did an
upgrade today and with the new gnome/gdm packages, gdm now functions
properly.
However, I still get the popup at login that gnome-power-manager is not
responding.

I just did a distupgrade from Karmic -> Lucid. Now, each time I login,
whether to GNOME or KDE, I see a popup for stating gnome-power-manager
has died. Unfortunately the desktop manager takes over so quickly I
can't close it, and whe
I think this may be in some way related to compiz. I had the same exact
thing happen to me - sound icon was being duplicated in place of the
networkmanager icon. I'm using the nvidia 173 driver as the 185 package
failed to work for me.
I thought removing the icon then replacing it might do the t
