Sorry, but that is no longer possible. I decided to update my files system
from ext3 to ext4, based on the Ubuntu wiki, and now my file system is dead
:( I guess I am going to try doing a fresh install of the alpha...

During and after boot of Jaunty Jackalope (Alpha 3) 'gnome-settings-
daemon' fails to start. Even after repeated attempts to restart the
daemon it will not start. This problem only started occurring after
upgrade for Intrepid Ibex
