Workaround for basic users:
In a terminal, type:
sudo chmod +x /usr/share/applications
ln -s /usr/share/applications ~/Applications
Then one can go to his home folder, than Applications, then drag ones
favourite application icons to the desktop. When done, one can delete
Applications.
