I can confirm it. Using 8.04 (upgraded from 8.04) and totem-xine. Although, I think this happens in earlier versions of Ubuntu. I would like to give some details of what I have found: The Totem mozilla plugin does not honour the gconf keys that control the usage of the visual effects when playing

I have created an example. Start totem, go to its preferences and disable the visual effects. Then go to this page: http://geocities.com/kostas291/totem_plugin_example.html the effects continue to work in the plugin. The effects is always the goom, since the plugin checks the ~/.config/totem/xine
