I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 with latest updates. Right now this is happening
only in Pidgin (2.6.3-1ubuntu1~pidgin1.9.10), and has been happening
since early versions of Pidgin in Ubuntu 8.04, 8.10, 9.04.
Earlier, there were same problems with Save as windows, if the path
was too long, but it is

Same here with 32bit 9.10, Intel 865G. Also, this bug is similar to
#444518 and #469172.
