gvfsd-sftp is really really slow at browsing. I can no longer call browsing

sftp over gvfs is painfully slow. like 2-3 seconds slower from only
taking 0 to 1 second to browse. Saving files is even worse. It's like
its logging in the the server every time.

it doesn't help. The frequency that it occurs is so small its hard to
catch. Regular top would be better because i can set the refresh rate
to 0. One thing is for sure laptops and desktop hard drive never
sleeps.

Heres how I did it:
I went to my panel. Right clicked and "Add to Panel" to add "CPU
Frequency Scaling Monitor".
Now I start to left double-clicking
Not more green or blue. Just a touch of green and blue. Just randomly
any icon, just as long there is one green or one blue in any one window.
It does look a bit monotonic. Everything is orange, brown and red.

Notice that most icons in Windows are not wasting pixels. Artists actually are
using all available space.
But in linux icons are drawn so that there is at least 2-3 pixel padding around
a centered icon. So icons from Windows dont really integrate well and look
bigger. If

Yes stopping hal actually elminates the disk activity that happens every second.
While it solves the constant disk activity there's still disk activity at
random times when the computer is idle.

Automatic backup has been off the whole time. I turned it off because of this
and still it has the problem.

I've narrowed down this bug to dbus/hald.
sudo chmod -x /etc/init.d/dbus
No more random disk activity at all.

so it loads the user's enviroment instead of roots.
