This happens to me when I try to use the 'Create Launcher' option on the
desktop. I think a few people have noticed this on the Ubuntu forums.
I noticed the following behaviors of the dialogue:
When I start typing anything with a '/' at the beginning, after the second
character the box will

When trying to type the path to a icon folder, the dialogue closes.

Open up Alacarte Menu Editor.
Go to the properties of any entry.
Click on the icon button.
Try typing the path to a file.
The dialogue will close which forces you to use the browse feature to get to a
folder.
