After ~72 hours, my Gnome desktop will be very slow.
In syslog I noticed that I get a bunch of these messages as the system

Empathy. Typing the new passwords in the account options is enough to
enable Empathy each day, but even though it's set to remember

triggers it, and I quit Empathy so I don't have a screenshot available.
But it is an especially annoying error because, once it pops up, it
persists even when I log out and log back in, or shut down and start

I'd call this a bug. The visible-on-mouseover scrollbars introduced in
11.04 are slow, are unreliable, and are a usability/accessibility
nightmare. The old-style scrollbars at least worked.
Suggested fix: open the software center and disable the new-style
scrollbars.

I can confirm that this bug happens in Ubuntu 11.10 if a Western Digital My
Book (1 Tb mirroring) is connected through USB.
Disconnecting the WD results in a gnome-settings-daemon that doesn't crash.
This bug can be temporarily fixed by executing the following script as
startup item in Startup
I'm not seeing the file locations, only the names; either way it's
important to see the locations. Running 11.04 Classic.

I disagree. I often have trouble with the cursor disappearing - not
right now, but other times - when I'm typing in Firefox. I also had
trouble with the cursor jumping about because of the malfunctioning Alps
touchpad. So the cursor would jump and change the insertion point for
new text, etc. and
I get a ntwork error too, but I can't connect at all - I just get
network error after network error.

I tried the PPA route without reading the rest of the post. Now, it did
fixed the original Thunar selection problem but it left my XFCE deskotp
in a less than desirable state.
Could anyone please tell me how to restore my system back before I added these
