Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor
The uptime is an interesting information and should not be hidden. Tools
like htop or top do show them, why not gnome-system-monitor?

The same thing happens in Lubuntu 10.04 when using pidgin. This is
probably a problem of the notification area, as Lubuntu does not use the
gnome-panel or notification area.

I have the same problem. When inserting a CD or DVD, nautilus crashes and all
desktop icons disappear.
If I try to access Desktop or CD Rom from the "Place" on the tool bar, a tag
"opening Desktop" will show
