Same here, upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04 and date and time is missing from
the panel. When I go to "Time and Date Settings" the clock tab is
greyed out, I can see the option to show clock in menu bar but it is
greyed out (marked as display) and all options are unreachable.

(Japanese), the playlist does not always update and stays with the last

To Christian A. Reiter, killall won't work, because notify-ost is a
service and ubuntu will automatically restart it. What I did was opening
system monitor and stop the process (not, kill, not terminate, just
pause). If you want to get rid of it, I think you'll have to edit
something else.

I tried the brightness applet workaround, and it worked.
Then, I clicked on the brightness applet, but then I increased the brightness
with the keyboard, and no trouble occurred. I also noticed that the brightness
slider prevented the brightness osd from showing up.
