It seems that it's supposed to open a right-pane to show the image preview for the icon, but if you select a non-image file or folder, it opens the preview quickly then closes it so the dialog gets wider? I'm not a developer, but this issue exists for sure. -- Select custom icon weired behavoir

The main issue here is resolved... I can right-click and extract successfully from all the multi-file and single file rar archives I could find laying around on my hard drives. The secondary issue (with the extract dialog inside of file-roller not responding to extract unless you pick a folder)
