Yesterday I restored some of my old folders from Maverick (10.10) and ~/.compiz
was one of them. Today, the topbar was exactly the same as OP. Removing it
fixes the issue.
Here's the clue from dmesg wich make me to believe that compiz was guilty:
[ 607.195639] compiz[1404]: segfault at 11 ip 00
Still present in empathy 2.32.0.1 and telepathy-butterfly-0.5.14-1,
Ubuntu 10.10. No P4-Context support at all.

I think they aren't the same bug, the steps to reproduce them are close,
but the issue is way different. I never got stucked in a locked session,
just the annoying loop sound and the logoff fail with the secon
I confirm this bug in Karmic and the error at login has gone after
disabling Ubuntuone from startup session programs.

Same here, Brasero 0.9.1 installed, nautilus has some items in pt-br and others
in english.

I agree with this bug's title, removable devices shouldn't have a .trash
folder on it. At least I must to have an option to choose if the folder
will be created or not.
