I hope one of the lessons learned from this episode is to have the
upgrade function available for testing earlier in the release cycle.
Hate to have to go thru something lke this again for 14.04.1

Calling attention to this important. Too bad you couldn't get this
warnng out without expecting the user to read the release notes. I
suspect many upgraders will think I've been playing with 12.04 - I know
what to expect. Some kind of a Don't Panic scren at the start of the
upgrade would've been
Same bug in QuantalA3 guest in Precise Vbox host. Possibly related to
using Gnome Classic No Effects desktop. And installed OK with workaround
in #12. While it's unlikeky that a newbie will hit this, those of us who
know just enough to be dangerous might get stumped.

I'm with Erez. Same behaviour on Karmic BetaUNR booting from
installation to 4GB SDHC. See #1 for other details.
Oddly, booting from version created with Netbootin to 2GB USBKey did NOT
give this error. May only apply with fully installed versions. Erez -
can you test?

Battery Device Info
Looks I'm either the first to try i845 user to try Karmic Alpha5, or
everyone else is giving up seeing this bug properly repaired.
The good news is that booting with acpi=off allows the boot to complete
the desktop. That's progress.
The bad news is that once you're at the desktop, performance is
Jerry - this is *NOT* the same bug as yours. Compiz is not in use here.
Besides,. I'm booting a live CD. I don't see any /etc/X11/xorg.conf to be
modified. Please explain if I'm missing something. My HP desktop is still
running 8.04LTS.

Don't consider it dupe - compiz not in play (Effects None).
Managed to get to GNOME by booting noapic. Horrible performance - top
shows Xorg is sucking back the entire CPU. Xorg.0.logfile attached to
