Yes, there are several themes you could switch to that would make the
bug effectively invisible. Or the author could go change the single line
that specifies the "gtk-stock-remove" or whatever icon, and change it to
the appropriate icon for "zoom out" or "reduce", and actually fix the
issue.

Yes, this happens with lubuntu's Industrial theme, and any theme that
doesn't use a minus sign for the "remove" icon.
