This is an annoying shortcoming in the current gnome-settings (used to
be gnome-power-manager). It does not check whether it should suspend
when entering on-battery state. Here's a work-around:
Put the following into an (executable) file
/etc/pm/power.d/zzsleepiflidclosed
#!/bin/sh
# If the lid

In Karmic, the redesigned volume controls don't allow the individual
sound sliders to be altered (PCM, wave, etc). My sound card has a
problem which requires the PCM to be turned down to get rid of fuzzy

In Karmic beta, when the desktop icons are hidden by unchecking
apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop in gconf, there seems to be about
20 instances of 'Starting File Manager' when Ubuntu starts.
