The guy emphasizes that Evince is slow. I also had the feeling that when
characters were blurry, Evince was notably slowier than usually, or as
compared to xpdf on the same document (non blurry, fast).

If it isn't fixed by now, chances are that devs have other priorities. Why
don't you simply give Hardy a try? It's at "point 1" now, and everything works
almost fine for me.
BTW: The bug is reported, well known already, and almost surpassed by
new versions. I don't see the point on f

- Confirmed, nautilus search doesn't work.
- Confirmed, search through places>search for files... DOES work.

I had the same issue with VLC.
I fixed it by...
sudo apt-get remove vlc vlc-nox (obviously totem would go here)
Then it told me of the libraries no longer in use...
