I click on "Show Applications" and select the "All" option at the bottom. I
click on the dots on the right to try to view the next page of apps. The button
highlights and reacts to my clicks as it normally would, but I can not view the
other page of apps. When

Thanks for pointing out uninstalling the shell extensions. I had the
same problem and switching off all custom shell extensions helped
instantly.
Basically, this also urges an audit of gnome-shell and associated
libraries, as this type of crash _could_ be a security issue triggered
by extensions (

now I have tried 3 different ways from terminal to retrive mime information
from a .txt file on a davs:// resource with the problems on mime type detection
in Nautilus, if the drive is mounted to Places via "Connect to Server..." the
result is quiet

With 2.30.2 (lucid) I get a similar error, but with a somewhat meaningful
message:
"Please install the following manually and try again: cdrdao (application)."

Above behaviour still happens, even with 2.25.91 (on intrepid).
It seems to me that the data acquisition for file sizes wedges at some point
(mostly JPEG files) and does not continue from there.
