Experienced this problem after accidental Super + P combo.
Now, no more volume Up or Down and Ctrl + Alt + T is recast as duplicate
tab in FireFox or if FireFox is not running nothing happens.
Bizarre and very, very frustrating.

Example:
I use Virtualbox and mount a .vdi on an SMB server. Using gvfsd-smb
(browsing within Gnome to find the share), gvfsd-smb uses up to 50% CPU
which slows down the entire system when accessing the network share.
Mounting using sudo ($ sudo mount -t smbfs -o guest,nounix
I don't even know what's going on with the greeters in newer versions of
Ubuntu. I assume XDMCP has been consigned to the history books. I guess
it's something I'll have to Google for a while to find a workaround.

This just happened to me, not after a version upgrade but just a large
update on July 17 2012 on 12.04. Wants to rename everything to Chinese.
Gnome 3 (not using Unity) menus are now mostly I am not amused.
