It does not occur when None is selected in Appearance Preferences -->
Visual Effects. It does when Normal or Extra is selected.

I'm having exactly the same problem on gutsy now. I'm working on a HP
Compaq nx9420 laptop. See attachment with screenshot of `Listen'
application. It happens also with Texmaker, Nautilus, ...
