The behaviour it's the same as in kde, and windows. I've tried tio explain it
but after one month you don't even consider possible a feature which is working
for the rest of the world for years. It took one sec to try it on kde.
If you type fast it matches more letter, if it's slow enough or the
Kde has the same behaviour, and it had it for years. I still can't understand
why the bug was instantly flagged as rejected.
It's a very basic and essential feature missing from nautilus, why it can't
even be consedered is out of my mind.

If "t" is pressed twice, then "e" is pressed before a proper timeout, it should
select "ttexample"

Switch to tip. Then if you press again it should switch to "ttexample" and then
again to "temp". If you keep it pressed, it should cycle indefinitely between
those 3 items.
If different letters are pressed i.e. "t" then "i" it should select "tip".

The best would be to use ctrl+l with an autocompletion similar to the
file-selector widget, and the "cycling selection" proposed above when a
list/combo or icon view is focused.
