I can confirm this issue in Lucid. I got this "checking-lock" several
times and if I remember correctly, for me it actually happened only
after a suspend (closing the lid).
It's possible to switch to the console and kill gnome-screensaver-
dialog. Afterwards, a login with the login-dialog works wi
