I have this bug posted over on the gnome project.

They have done some work on it as it looks to be a pygobject problem. I
haven't had time to try any of their patches yet, just waiting for
packages to show up (soon, I hope).

Myself, I am still trying to get compiz to sound the nice bell that
metacity does on a beep.
