This bug has been opened since 2004. Isn't there some kind of interim
fix that can be presented like putting some kind of spam filtering proxy
in as an option that circumvents Evolution's nasty way of doing this?
Or perhaps a preconfigured fetchmail/spambayes pairing that is installed

If I want to automatically sign messages in Evolution, it needs to have
seahorse-agent running. Seahorse-agent is not running when the system
is first installed. Further, the name "seahorse" isn't visible in any
menu -- it's called "Encryption
up to be running. And that what it says you have to do doesn't
point to a program name that's visible on any menu. And that it should
really be set up to work out of the box instead of requiring the user to
manually run anything at all anyway.
