Confirming the exact same problem. 10.04 i386. This cropped up after I installed the Opera browser (10.11, deb from their website) and played with Unity (added ppa:canonical-dx-team/une and installed ubuntu-netbook-unity-default-settings package). I don’t know which of the two caused that. -- g
