wireless card is the infamous broadcom chip.
dunno the type from top of my head... but forums are full of "how to get it
working"

Same problem on Mint 14 KDE (based on ubuntu 12.04),
Using a HP 550 laptop.
Shutdown results in end logo showing... indefenitly.
