I used to have this issue but have not experienced it for years.
Currently running a clean install of 12.10 with the recommended nvidia
driver (304.51) with no problems.

Yes, this problem is still occurring. As before, the delay in switching
grows as time goes on, until the computer is unresponsive for longer
than my patience.
I don't have another version of linux installed currently, please advise
as the best way to accomplish what you were looking for in commen
Actually we have been working around it by always logging out so I am
not sure. I just tried switching back and forth a couple of times and
so far so good. I will give it a try over the next few days and let you
know.

Forgot to mention that the system was working fine (aside from bug
#607543) before running updates late last week. Whatever updates were

No offense, but it strikes me as a poor practice to mark a bug invalid,
make a comment that it is a duplicate, but not provide the specific bug
report for which it is a duplicate. That is a recipe for losing issues.
