Also affected with a Core i7, an SSD and an Nvidia GeForce GTS 450
(proprietary driver). The workaround in comment #68 (sleep) fixes it for
me too. Here's two lines from .xsession-errors when it doesn't work
(with the workaround, these lines do not appear):

report). What version of pulseaudio do you have?
I'm running on Intrepid and haven't had this bug in a while, so maybe
it's already gone.

I played the video in QuickTime and it's displayed exactly the same as
in Totem, MPlayer and VLC. It's actually the video which has the wrong
values set (mp4dump shows the wrong display dimensions of 654x208).

Here's an attachment to make sure we're all talking about the same
arrows :).
And they're not just this big in the main menu, it's in all the GTK+
menus, e.g. the right click menu of the desktop, the context menu of
NetworkManager, etc.
