[Bug 28835] Re: "Unmount" in volume right-click menu, is tech-speak and undiscoverable

2010-09-18 Thread ShawnJGoff
After more thinking about the way it should work, I have some more details. Once a removable media is inserted (but not explicitly mounted), there should be an icon in the notification area with a symbol representing such media or a plug of some sort. The icon should have a check-mark to show that

2010-09-16 Thread ShawnJGoff
The vast majority of users don't want to know about mounting or unmounting; they don't even like knowing that they're supposed to "safely remove" in Windows - it makes them uncomfortable or guilty when they accidentally pull the thing out, which is what they really should be able to do. Real

2009-07-22 Thread ShawnJGoff
Yes, it's definitely the HIG that is the problem. I would point out that none of those apps follow the HIG anyway. According to the guidelines, if there are more than 6 tabs, you should display a list control instead. http://library.gnome.org/devel/hig-book/stable/controls- notebooks.html.en The r

I much prefer the having the button to switch between breadcrumbs and text url. We're talking about getting rid of redundancy, if we have both, it's just plain horrible. If you use the button that switches the breadcrumbs to the text, it stays that way when you open nautilus next time. Also, if the

2009-06-18 Thread ShawnJGoff
Really, the whole issue of unmounting a usbstick is not intuitive for people. I know many people who still just yank the thing out when they're done with it (even after warnings). I believe the solution is to have a "soft unmount" after a device has been idle for some amount of time (30 secs? 5 mi

2009-06-18 Thread ShawnJGoff
Buttons are too bulky for the breadcrumb. I'd prefer a different widget; something that made them all look like part something, but independent within. If anyone else shares the sentiment, I can make a mockup. The zoom buttons in the statusbar is a good choice, as is the right- aligned search text
