Hello,
Gnome's keyboard-indicator applet, has a hidden feature, which allows
countries' flags to be shown instead of simple text such as "us".
The option is availabe via gconf:
/apps/gswitchit/Applet/showFlags
This feature can enhance
"RenderAccel" "off" did the trick for me as well, though it made a few
games quite slow (Frozen-Bubble, Battle of Wesnoth).
