With a somewhat fresh install of the beta 2 image, this did not re-occur.
Totem did not play the dvd - or offer any help for plugins.
I followed steps here:

ran: Install the libdvdread4 package
:~$ sudo
Still present in current daily!
Little help testing, when one cannot log out to switch sessions.

May I ask, which version your referring to?
I'm testing natty daily-live and questioned that also. I even used password and
still don't receive the option.
Well..1st boot showed it, but not after making a choice...so I wonder.
