I found the duplicate bug and seen that it already has been fixed but
you need to switch themes and then switch back to see that it was fixed.
can you include some automatic reload so that normal users dont

you need to switch to another GTK theme with gnome-tweak-tool and then
switch back to ambiance to solve the problem. there definately needs to
be some automatic reload added to solve the problem for people that used
light-themes and had the problem before the issue was
as i recommended if its possible put it in the /etc/alternatives I did
not see anything there that matches telepathy and the kubuntu-desktop
install also did not tell me whether i want to use the empathy or KDE

I tried installing Oneiric on an Asus EEE PC900, and at first it failed,
hanging at Configuring target system.
I tried recovering from the console, but that did not work. I checked
what was happening at the time of the hang:
/usr/share/ubiquity/installplugins.py was waiting for input on file
its own syndaemon instance).
Of course, it is possible some people have the same bug behaviour with
other causes.

lightdm starts a syndameon instance which is not terminated upon session
startup.
So there is the conflict: two syndaemon instances, one from lightdm and one
from logged in user.
Just experienced this problem after going from gdm back to lightdm.
This does not happen with gdm.

I have a similar problem.
I just wanted to copy an Audio-CD.

brasero complains drive is busy while burning iso; nautilus-cd-burner works fine
If the thumbnailer hangs, this is a problem with specific files. Wasn't there a
timeout of 30 seconds?
Anyway, you can disable thumbnail generation per mime-type in gconf. Have a
look at the comment by Sebastien:

Binary package hint: nautilus
As default, nautilus uses 96px thumbnails / previews for files. This
results in usability and design issues.
To be consistent, thumbnails / previews should be 48px, like all normal
icons.
Can be fixed through gconf-editor
