This seems clear-cut enough; the request is effectively for VteTerminal
to show echoed input in a different style from text written to the ptty.
This would require some changes to VteTerminal in libvte, and some
changes to gnome-terminal to add corresponding preferences.

I have the same issue in Intrepid. Worked fine with Hardy. I have the
panel set with a background image. PNG with transparency.

Perhaps the specific behavior which is wanted is to prompt if the user
tries to put a disk image file in an otherwise blank CD?
It is probably also necessary to define the desired behavior in the case
where the user has already added files or directories to the CD.

I think this feature request properly belongs to nautilus-cd-burner.
I've seen people affected by similar problems, and this might be a good
way of avoiding a usability minefield (and a lot of coasters).
