I just wanted to state that this issue seems to have resolved itself.
I've grabbed the updated packages from apt and these are what I believe
the relevant updates were. Is there any more information that might be
more useful?

I'd like to report that this issue is also being reproduced with nouveau
on NVIDIA GF108. However, my dmesg does not seem to contain nouveau
errors.

Here is an updated valgrind run with gvfs, gphoto, etc rebuilt with
debugging symbols.
Once again I did the same things that crash it pretty quickly when not
running under valgrind.

Amusingly, I cannot reproduce the crash under Valgrind. It runs like a
champ. I have attached the log, maybe if is of help. Without valgrind I
can crash gvfsd-gphoto2 easily.
