setting up a wireless pci card, and at the
moment, whilst the pci card is recognized, I am still connected by
cables.
Network Manager was telling me that I was not connected when this was
untrue.

When I had this problem in in Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron), the following
worked for me:
1. Go to .local/share/Trash/files in your ´home´ directory, for example on the
command line:
cd .local/share/Trash/files
2. Type in: sudo rm -r name_of_folder
