What you really want is for samba shares mounted by nautilus to really
be mounted and not just fake mounted, i.e. they should appear in the
file system. Then normal symlinks to remote files would work, and
programs that doesn't use Gnome-VFS could access the files.

When right clicking on a .mp3 file that is accessed from a windows share
nautilus doesn't show vlc in the Open With menu. If I copy the file to
the desktop vlc is shown in the menu. I would expect it to be shown no
matter where the file is.

"Keyboard Preferences" by dragging the layouts with the mouse nothing
