At the time of reporting my system was in a unsupportable half-upgraded
state between Yakkety and Zesty. Obviously given that it's hard to
expect stability, but I've since fixed that and am running a proper
Zesty environment (with Evolution 3.22.6-1ubuntu1). I and am still
seeing the issue.

I have evolution configured with an imapx connection to my mail
provider. If I've opened any number of messages (each in its own message
window), all message displays turns white when any new mail arrives.
