I've got a pretty good work around at this point. I have found that
after maximizing the application, everything is ok. So after I did
that gedit was good. Seems like it does still mess up when running in
a smaller window. Don't know why running under sudo would make any
difference there,
Thanks for your note Pedro, I'll do what I can about gathering the
additional information. Is there some document about gedit which talks
about libraries that gedit is dependent on? I believe that my problem is
that without sudo, I don't have access to whatever library you guys use to
render the

When I open a file with gedit, I simply see the frame with no contents.
If I launch with sudo, everything is fine. I tried a re-install from
the repository and that did not solve my problem. Seems like a
ownership or rights problem...
