I'm doing same just i use gnome-screensaver-preferences and turn idle_activation_enabled... And wollah... GUI :) Unfortunately this is only temporary solution untill they fix gnome- screensaver. But how comes in older version gnome-screensaver did work properly? -- gnome-screensaver --poke
