I can confirm this, my metacity package got lost somehow, after
reinstalling it, the cursor is there.

I have the same issue, Netbook edition on samsung nc10.
It also occurs if I switch users.

Directly after the gdm menu disappears, the X-shaped cursor is shortly
visible, then the normal cursor appears.
