I'm still running ubuntu 8.04 but actually don't have reproduced the bug

I 've set the property as you said, but still same behavior when playing the
video in totem or using the gst-launch playbin command.
I noticed a strange behavior though, when totem is running, gst-launch works
fine.

I'm sorry I can't figure out what to do to get information about my videocard
and the driver I use.
I tried the following command:
gst-launch filesrc location=myvideo.mpg
and I only get the attached error message.

I've tried out the command line. Same behavior. It only works if gxine is
running. Many things are printed on the command line but no error or warning
message.
It happens to all the mpg1 videos I produced myself using adobe premiere. here
is a sample video.

I'm sorry, I never heard about compiz. But if I check with synaptic manager, it
happens that the following paquets installed:
compiz, compiz-core, compiz-gnome, compiz-gtk, compiz-plugins.
should I try to uninstall these paquets ?

When playing some videos, I can only hear audio, the screen only displays
moving colored strips from left bottom to up right.
I'm using ubuntu 7.04 and cannot read examples/Experience ubuntu.ogg.
I'm quite sure I used to be able to play this one.
