There's only the possibility to select a program entry from the list. No
options or buttons are usable. The dialog can neither be accepted nor
cancelled. Nautilus can't be handled correctly anymore

Just did a step-by-step debugging by backing up and restoring my
evolution settings and database and resetting the GConf evolution
parameter to default value.
Found out that it's a problem with the following GConf entry

Ubuntu-bug didn't work last time. Created bug report but couldn't send it to
launchpad. Probably this is a problem when changing from company's proxy server
to private no proxy connection systemwide.
But seems to work with your apport-collection command afterwards.

Just startet Valgrind described in the article.
Step "Perform any actions necessary to reproduce the crash." can't be done.
Can't reproduce because if it crashes, it crashes always with different
behaviour. So I've added the log created until complete startup of evolution.

I've tried out the LiveCD desktop version of Ubuntu, Hardy Heron as you
described.
It seems as if the problem doesn't exist there anymore.
I've also tried out LiveCD desktop and installed desktop version of
Ubuntu 7.10 again. There the problem doesn't also exist anymore.
