With regard to the windows firewall having to be disabled, i have found that if you add port exceptions for the following ports under the windows firewall exceptions tab it will also work just as well as disabling the firewall... The ports you need to open are: UDP 177, TCP 6000, TCP 16001 I was having the same stated problem until modifying the /etc/hosts file aswell as forwarding these ports under the firewall, now all is working well.
