Since nautilus is failing without generating any sort of error message I've gone through the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash page and generated all the output suggested there (gdb backtrace, valgrind log, strace log, .xsession-errors content) and attached it here. Hope this helps - l
