If "Do nothing" is selected for "When laptop lid is closed" and the
laptop lid is closed, the external monitor never goes to sleep. If the

There is a "Do nothing" option, but you have to enable it manually via
gconf-editor (wasn't the case in earlier versions of Ubuntu).

No, apparently due to the complexity and depth of the issue, it doesn't
qualify as a papercut.
Meanwhile Mozilla has fixed the issue in Firefox by simply redesigning
the "Save As..." dialog entirely. While I welcome the progress, it's
frustrating that this oft-used interface will no longer be stan
Thanks for the workaround, this was annoying me as my laptop takes
forever to struggle out of hibernation!
I agree that the language is ambiguous. In the rest of the dialog box,
suspend or hibernate are used explicitly - "sleep" is more of a Windows

Ok, I checked on Mac OS (10.5.something) and they solve it as follows:
When navigating folders by keyboard, pressing tab ONCE takes you from
the folder list straight back to the Name field, as it does in Windows

Thanks for your note David. I'm not suggesting to change the behaviour
of the Find As You Type feature that allows quickly jumping through
directory structures by typing folders' initial letters. Personally I
use this all the time and think it's great.

I have the same problem on Gutsy (final). I have dual screen (twinview,
not xinerama). As soon as I switch back from another user, the screens
go blank (light gray). I can usually still switch back to the previous
user successfully, or I can switch to a console, or I can use CTRL + ALT
