Retried again. The debugging command : kill -9 `pgrep gnome-settings`; gnome-settings-daemon --debug made the patch work for Unity 3D temporarily. I had a similar output as in comment #22 (xrandr Identified monitors...etc) and the monitor switch also worked. After logout/login, the patch is
