After I updated on 21/03/11 at 15:00 aprox (GMT+10). The theme is not
lost anymore.
I can change all L&F settings without a problem.
Attached new .xsession-errors, I see the difference is that all the
warnings from gnome-settings-daemon have gone.

Further analysis reveals that gnome-settings-daemon is running but it
seems it is unresponsive.
As a workaround I killed and started gome-settings-daemon manually to
get the themes working properly.
